PHS Teacher Honored By Special Olympics
Lindsay Bookshar, a Perkins High School intervention specialist and organizer of the Pirates United Sports program, has been honored with the ”Excellence In Inclusion” award by Special Olympics Ohio.
The award is given to one elementary school, one middle school, one high school, and one college or career center to celebrate schools “that promote inclusion, Unified sports, and youth leadership while fostering an environment of acceptance and belonging among students, staff, and the community,” said Special Olympics Ohio Vice President Kyle Miller in a letter to Ms. Bookshar. “We have the pleasure of working and connecting with hundreds of schools that share our mission of social inclusion, and we are proud to celebrate your exceptional efforts.”
Under Ms. Bookshar’s direction, Perkins Schools hosted a Unified sports round-robin basketball tournament with teams from Amherst, Lorain, and Sandusky schools. The teams included players and their student partners and student coaches from each school's athletic squads.
Ms. Bookshar will be honored at a celebration in September hosted by Special Olympics Ohio.
Congratulations Ms. Bookshar.
